  Leadership:

  Promote “Clear, Consistent, Caring Leadership” at all levels of the organisation.

• OHS Leadership has worked with the senior management of a number of organisations to coach and mentor their OHS leadership skills. Based on the principal that “It either Starts at the Top or It Doesn’t Start” the intent is to help leaders identify a range of values, behaviours, standards, systems and tools to be adopted and practiced across their organisation. Leaders are then trained, coached and mentored to consistently demonstrate these behaviours and standards.

  Behaviour:

  Improve “safety  behaviour” by engaging everyone on the journey to superior OHS outcomes.

• OHS Leadership has implemented a range of programs and activities designed to:

  • Assist organisations identify and “bring to life” their values and goals
  • Involve all people in activities to recognise exemplary safety behaviours within organisations
  • Involve all people in activities to provide feedback on unsafe behaviours
  • Engage employees and utilise their skills, knowledge and energy to continually improve OHS outcomes
  • Encourage the reporting and investigation of “near hits” and errors

  Systems:

  Provide the foundation for authorised, consistent, efficient and superior OHS Performance

• Any OHS Management System must follow the Plan, Do, Check, Review continuous improvement cycle, which is outlined below. This ensures that risks are assessed, controlled and reviewed in a manner consistent with regulatory, community and business standards. The systems utilised to manage OHS should be:

• • Simple and efficient
  • Authorised and productive
  • Complete, and utilised
  • Developed by all relevant stakeholders

  OHS Management System Audit and Review

  All OHS Management Systems must be the subject of regular, robust governance processes. These processes should ensure that organisations:

  • “Do what they say they are going to do”, and that
  • “What they say they do is good enough”.
