Recent work has identified 6 basic tenets for OHS leadership, providing a guide for the evaluation of individual leadership attributes and the basis for training and coaching leaders in the behaviours required of them to lead their organisation or team to outstanding OHS performance.
OHS Leadership has undertaken a range of reviews of the safety behaviours of people at all levels of organisations both within Australia and internationally. The outcomes of these reviews have been directed into revision of existing programs and activities to improve their effectiveness or the design and implementation of new programs designed to achieve consistently high standards of safety behaviour across all levels of organisations.
OHS Leadership has been involved in the design and implementation of many components of OHS management systems. We have been a leading member of a team evaluating an organisation’s safety management system and are experienced in the evaluation of systems for their effectiveness.
OHS Leadership has been involved in audits and reviews of OHS management systems, in a number of countries, and including a range of government / semi-government organisations and public companies. The auditing and reviews are designed to deliver a practical, instructive approach to assist organisations learn.
OHS Leadership is experienced in using a range of tools to assist organisations to identify, assess and control their hazards and has facilitated OHS risk profiles for a range of companies. The results of this work have been utilised to promote due diligence in management and reporting of OHS risk at all levels in the companies, including regular reporting of the risks to senior management groups.

2. Evaluation of a OHS management system as part of the due diligence process for the purchase of a large American Company
3. Design of a new OHS management system, and the accompanying audit tool, for a large multinational manufacturing organisation
4. Review and redesign of the injury treatment and injury management process for a large organisation within Australia
OHS Leadership has been involved in evaluating the OHS culture in a number of organisations using a combination of survey tools, focus groups, discussions and observations. The information learnt from these activities has been utilised in the development and implementation of improvement programs together with incorporation into 3 – 5 year OHS business plans.
OHS Leadership has been involved in the provision of coaching to individuals at all levels of organisations including both operational staff and OHS professionals. Coaching has also been provided to small groups, teams of operators, OHS professionals and groups of supervisors/middle managers.
OHS Leadership has developed and implemented a range of fitness to work programs, including alcohol and other drug testing, fatigue management and ongoing fitness to work programs. We have been involved in the evaluation and implementation of a series of medical standards designed to ensure continued fitness for safety critical work.
OHS Leadership led a major audit into the Occupational Health, emergency treatment and evacuation programs required in New Caledonia, a country in which the organisation was commencing operations.
OHS Leadership has considerable experience in working with leaders of organisations to develop appropriate key focus areas for ongoing OHS improvement and to then identify relevant Key Performance Indicators to drive and measure improvement in those areas.
Chris Darling (Director) has held many positions which oversaw the design and delivery of training in both military and civilian workplaces.
He is a trained instructor who has designed and delivered many training programs.
Chris has also presented papers on OHS at national and international conferences and for many organisations.
