OHS Leadership Pty Ltd is a small, dynamic consultancy service which adds value to businesses by working with leaders, from the Chief Executive to front line supervisors, to create and maintain a high performing, sustainable OHS culture capable of achieving superior outcomes as measured by:

There are 3 key areas to be focused on when creating and maintaining a high performing OHS culture. They are:

OHS Leadership will add value by ensuring that the expectations, systems, tools, activities and behaviours for each of the 7 essential elements are clearly articulated, applied and reviewed within each of the 3 key focus areas.

 

Background - Chris Darling [Director]

 

Dr Chris Darling commenced his professional career as a medical practitioner, becoming a medical specialist in Occupational Medicine in 1984, with qualifications in both Occupational and Aviation Medicine. He has 15 years experience in the Steel industry, 8 years experience in aviation and has worked in a wide variety of industries including mining, construction and oil and gas.  He has lived and worked in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia and has undertaken work in countries including Korea, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, New Zealand and America.

Prior to establishing OHS Leadership Pty Ltd Chris had a senior management role with BlueScope Steel as the Safety, Health & Risk Manager for the Australia and New Zealand Steel Manufacturing Businesses.  This is a large heavy manufacturing industry with sites in the Illawarra (NSW), Western Port (Victoria) and New Zealand, with a wide range of process, task and health based risks.  The businesses employed over 6,500 employees and approximately 3,000 FTE contractors and became recognised both nationally and internationally as leaders in OHS, particularly within the Steel industry.  As a result of this recognition Chris has hosted a large number of visits from many organisations, both national and international, private and government, to learn how that performance was achieved. 

Chris was a member of the Expert Panel for the Waterfall Rail Accident Inquiry that designed and oversaw the audit of the safety management systems of RailCorp and ITSRR (Rail regulator) in NSW during Stage 2 of the Inquiry. The audit examined the effectiveness of system safety and OHS management systems across all operations.

Additionally Chris has visited many organisations to provide them with assistance and coaching in OHS, he has presented many papers on leadership and culture at OHS conferences and lectures at the University of Wollongong.

Special Commission of Inquiry into the Waterfall Rail Accident: 

Chris Darling was a member of the Expert Panel that advised the Commissioner, and oversaw the conduct of the comprehensive safety management systems audit of RailCorp and ITSRR (Rail regulator) in NSW during Stage 2 of this Inquiry from January to March 2004.  The audit examined effectiveness of system safety and OHS management systems across all operations and examined the effectiveness of the rail regulator.
